Do You Have A Noisy Garage Door? Here Is What You Should Do

Garage doors that make noise every time they are opened or closed can be quite a nuisance. And it isn't just the irritating noise that one has to deal with. Noisy garage doors also tend to be very difficult to operate.

The good news is that repairing a noisy garage door is easy. Here are tips that you can use to fix a noisy garage door problem.

Tighten loose bolts and screws

Loose screws and bolts are a common cause of noisy garage doors. This is because having loose screws means that there are parts of the door that are out of place. This makes flawless closing-and-opening motion impossible. It can also cause an imbalance in the distribution of the door's weight, something that will cause the door to wobble.

Start with the nuts that hold the track in place. And then move to the nuts and screws on the door itself. For the best results, make sure that you use a ratchet and a deep socket to do the tightening.

You should however take care not to overdo the tightening. Doing so may end up stripping the holes of the lag screws. It can also end up damaging the skin of your door.

Check for worn and torn parts

Any damage to the garage door's tracks is a likely cause of a lot of noise. With the door's weight pressing against the tracks, and the constant motion at the track area, this is no surprise. Therefore, if there is a dent in the rollers or the rollers' bearings are worn out, that is the likely cause of all the noise your garage door makes. Replacing any worn out bearings, rollers and roller pin brackets will therefore go a long way towards ensuring that you have a noiseless garage.

For a quieter garage door, you should consider replacing your steel rollers with nylon rollers. Nylon rollers are better because unlike steel rollers, they not only tend to cause less noise but also create less friction at the track area. Using them instead of steel rollers will dispense with the need for frequent lubrication as a garage-door-quieting technique.

Check the opener chain of your garage door

If the noise that your door makes is a slapping sound, then you have a garage opener chain problem. This is something that usually happens when the chain is loose.

Having a loose chain also makes it difficult to open and close the door. It makes the door to wobble, thus making it difficult for the rollers to move flawlessly. This can also cause your door to make a lot of noise.

Tightening the garage door opener chain should help solve this problem. Lubricating the opener track thereafter will also help to completely get rid of any opener-generated noise. Click here for more information about garage door repair.
